Please be advised that scores from the new SAT are NOT currently being used to satisfy the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR). For more information about this UC requirement, please visit http://www.ucop.edu/elwr/.

At UCSB, international students should take the English Language Placement Exam (ELPE). The ELPE will place students into the appropriate course(s) in order to satisfy the ELWR. Students who take the ELPE may be placed into Writing 1, Linguistics 12 or, if written performance indicates a need for additional academic writing instruction prior to the ELWR courses, into one of three pre-ELWR courses (Linguistics 3A, 3B or 3C).

If you have questions about the exam, please review our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section:  http://www.ems.ucsb.edu/undergrad/faq
