Graduate Testing Information
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PLACEMENT EXAM (ELPE)
The English Language Placement Exam (ELPE) for graduate students is required of all incoming international students whose first language is other than English. Some international graduate students are exempt from this exam if the student has completed their entire undergraduate degree at an approved English medium institution. Exemptions are determined by the Graduate Division and are made available to the EMS Program by mid-July.
DATE: Wednesday, September 18, 2019
TIME: 9:00AM - 11:00AM
LOCATION: GIRVETZ 1004
Please make sure to arrive to the exam location by 8:30am for check in. You will need to bring the following to the exam:
1) Your UCSB Access Card (or photo identification AND your perm number)
2) A pen and/or a pencil

Prospective Teaching Assistants
TA English Language Evaluations are required of all international students whose home language is other than English who are offered a TAship for the first time. These evaluations are arranged for students at the request of the student’s home department.
For Fall 2019, TA English Language Evaluations will take place on the following dates:
- Thursday, September 12, 2019
- Friday, September 13, 2019
- Monday, September 16, 2019
Exact appointment dates/time will be arranged with department staff graduate advisors.
Please note – there are no exemptions to the TA English Language Evaluation.
