What do students have to say?

  • “I personally found the course very useful and the readings very eye opening, I found the content to be very informative”
  • "I really enjoyed this class overall! Thank you for providing students with access to valuable and applicable critical reading skills!!"
  • "Instead of diving straight into writing, we focused on gradually constructing our arguments through brainstorming, discussions, and careful planning. This process not only helped me organize my thoughts better but also gave me a clear framework for structuring my essay.”
  • “This course was deeply insightful and helped me to gain a deeper understanding of how to read across disciplines. The instructor was knowledgable in the topic and cared about the success of her students. I would take this course many times again and recommend it to anyone.”
  • Most engaging and productive of the course were the analyses and discussions regarding the structure and themes of various texts. I found the close readings and argument dissection exercises especially useful. Those activities taught me how to cultivate deep engagement with materials, as well as how to identify key ideas. I also appreciated the discussions and peer reviews.”
  • “I have a better understanding of the structure, content, and phrasing of analytical and expository essays as well as MLA citation skills, which I had never been exposed to before. By annotating articles with peers, I have learned to read articles dialectically from different perspectives, and create reading logs to extract and integrate ideas of interest, making it easier to find potential connections between several articles. Moreover, my writing has become more logical after practicing coherence between paragraphs several times.”
