FALL 2020 ENGLISH LANGUAGE PLACEMENT EXAM (ELPE)
The English Language Placement Exam (ELPE) for graduate students is required of all incoming international students whose first language is other than English. Some international graduate students are exempt from this exam if the student has completed their entire undergraduate degree at an approved English medium institution. Exemptions are determined by the Graduate Division and are made available to the EMS Program by mid-July.
The English Language Placement Exam (ELPE) is offered to undergraduate international students that have not yet satisfied the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR). Information on ELWR can be found here: https://www.ucop.edu/elwr/.
If you are not sure whether you have to take the ELPE or if you have additional questions that are not answered in the FAQs, please contact Josie Patterson.
